Laurence "Larry" Martin

June 4, 1967 — August 17, 2025

Groton, NY

Upon answering a divine call to return to the Father, Laurence Ronald “Larry” Martin completed his earthly journey on August, 17 at the age of 58. Born on June 4, 1967 to Ronald Martin and Joyce Plevinsky he lived a life by his own choosing and marked with a commitment of love and loyalty to those close to him.

From an early age, Larry showed an inner strength to handle adversity, often done quietly and on his own terms. There was no greater outward signs of his strength than that he demonstrated over the last few years of his life while battling several physical illnesses.

Larry’s membership at church was very important to him. He was attending the West Groton Bible Church from his church Deep Creek in Bryson City, North Carolina. After giving his final testimony in church, Larry did as he has always done, quietly falling asleep in the faith of the Lord.

A graduate of Newark Valley High School the class of 1986, where Larry was an avid wrestler and was well liked by all. Larry immediately turned to work that allowed him to hone a trade using his hands. First as a landscaper, followed by a Mine Support worker at Cargill Deicing , Larry finally found his niche as a professional commercial painter, which he did until his health no longer allowed him to.

Larry’s life was more than his work. He enjoyed boating, camping, hunting, golfing and fishing, finding pleasure in the solitude of nature. He also loved animals especially dogs.

Larry also found great solace and happiness in the quiet moments of devotion to family. Larry was a loving husband to Rena-Renae (Sissy) and son-in-law to Stanford and Gail Husky with whom he worked with in the family painting business in North Carolina for many years. His own son Mackenzie also parent to his step-sons Tony and Dwayne.

Predeceased in death by his father, Ronald Martin and his wife, Rena-Renae (Sissy) Larry is survived by his mother Joyce (Tom), his siblings Debbie (Ray), Greg (Margo), Dianne (Olin), and Todd (Lori), as well as several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service and Celebration of His Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Newark Valley, 40 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY, on August 22, 2025, at 6:00p.m., with Pastor Chip Wood Officiating.
