Kirk Alan Peabody, 67, of Newark Valley, a beacon of joy and inspiration, passed away on May 14, 2025. Kirk was born on July 31, 1957, the son of Bernice Peabody and the late Gale Peabody. Kirk's life was a testament to the enduring power of positivity and faith, as he navigated his journey with grace and a smile that could light up a room.
Kirk is survived by his loving mother Bernice Benjamin Peabody, his brothers Danny “Skip’ Peabody, and Karl (Stacie) Peabody, and his nieces and nephews who he shared a close bond with: Danielle, Kacie (Justin), Tyler, Maddie (Dakota), Morgan, Meghan, Zhamiyah, Malik, Charlie Rae, Tobin, Oliver, Darcie and Cooper. Numerous friends and extended family also survive.
In addition to his father Gale Peabody, Kirk was welcomed into his heavenly home by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Graduating from BOCES in 1978, Kirk, after graduation he dedicated his time to the ACHIEVE workshop in Owego, starting at the young age of 21. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for the Special Olympics, where Kirk was a decorated athlete, earning numerous awards and medals in swimming and bowling.
Kirk's interests were as vibrant and diverse as his personality. Despite living with Down's Syndrome, he never let it define him or dampen his spirit. He was often heard sharing his affection with his signature phrase, "Me Love You," one of many phrases that captured the essence of his loving nature. A devout follower of Jesus, Kirk's faith was central to his life, guiding him through every challenge and triumph.
An artist at heart, Kirk loved to express himself through coloring and drawing, often recreating masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. His love for art was paralleled by his enthusiasm for computer games, which provided endless hours of entertainment and engagement.
Kirk's loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees was unwavering. He could always be seen dressed in his favorite sports attire, eagerly cheering on his teams with an infectious smile.
Friends and Family are invited to a service celebrating Kirk’s life on Wednesday May 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY, with Pastor Les Aylesworth Officiating. A period of sharing memories and visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Kirk will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery next to his father, following the service.
