Kimlyn Baird, 54, passed away on Sunday November 13, 2016 due to an unexpected illness. Kim is predeceased by her parents, Gerald J. (2014) and Florence (Griffiths) Baird (1971). She is survived by her sister, Jill Baird-Gent and her husband William (Bill) Gent, Owego, NY.Kim was born in Binghamton NY and graduated from Union Endicott High School (1980). She had two Bachelors degrees from SUNY Oneonta (1984). Kim is retired from the Federal Government. She worked in Schenectady NY for the US Navy, at West Point and then for Social Security (Binghamton). She was a decorated Civilian Navy employee, having been awarded a medal by the US Navy.Kim loved her family, especially her furry little nephew, Robby, the Cocker Spaniel, generously bringing him a toy at every visit. She was very close to her sister Jill, and vacationing with her was Kims favorite thing to do in life, especially if it involved beach chairs, sand, swimming and an ocean. It was lovingly well known that Kim really knew how to vacation well. Kim and her sister went to Cape May NJ every year, and while they greatly enjoyed many other vacations together, Cape May held a very special place in her heart.She was very close to her Aunt Blodwen (Bobby) Griffiths (predeceased) and spent many wonderful hours talking and swimming with her and Jill, at the family cottage, Baylors Lake, PA. She cherished the time spent there as a child with her Aunts Bobby, Marion, June and cousin Novellou. She treasured the memories of childhood vacations with her father, sister, and Uncle George Baird, Aunt Gwen, and cousins Dave, Michelle, and Jeff.Kim was always decisive and very generous. Her generosity and great love of shopping benefited many in such a positive way. She always bought Christmas gifts for her friends children and even for kids she didnt know. It was important to her that children had a wonderful Christmas. Kim had a special skill for selecting the perfect gift for people, and always elaborately wrapped them. She loved Christmas, anything to do with Christmas decorations, and frequently mentioned having too many ornaments for her tree.Kim loved to bake, and was well known for her amazing chocolate chip cookies. She loved chocolate, fudge and air conditioning. She crocheted baby blankets for her friends baby showers, was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, sharing books with friends and most of all reading magazines.Kim, like her mother, Florence, was an avid doll collector all of her life. She loved any type of Barbie Doll, especially if the color pink was involved. She truly enjoyed displaying them in her home, reading about them, and looking for new dolls.Kim was a religious person. Her only sister, and best friend, will mourn her loss forever, and knows she will see Kim someday in Heaven.A Celebration of Kims Life will be held at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley on Sat., Nov. 19th at 12 noon. Family and friends will share stories and memories there from 10 am until noon. Burial will follow in the family plot at Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton PA.
