Kelly Anne Perkins

December 15, 1999 — March 4, 2019

No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good bye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why..... We welcomed Kelly into our world on December 15, 1999 but our hearts were broken on Monday morning, March 4, 2019 with the sudden and unexpected passing of our loving Kelly Anne Perkins. Kelly was the loving daughter of Debbie and Enoch Perkins; and big sister of Eric all of Berkshire. From the time Kelly was just a little girl she was the nurturing type. In Kindergarten they called her "Mother Hen" because she was always watching out for the other kids and making sure nobody was slighted or hurt or left out. Thats how she was her entire life compassionate and caring and thoughtful and authentic in every way.One of Kellys most significant life activities was the Girl Scouts. She was proud to be a member of the NYPenn Pathways. When she was a scout she learned responsibility and resourcefulness and how to work with others how to lead and how to be an example She earned a Silver and a Bronze Scouting award for her service and work then she went on to work with the scouts as a Scout leader herself. She LOVED to teach young girls about Scouting and she fell in love with some of the Cub Scout Tigers she worked with. She really enjoyed their Pinewood Derby. It was fun and challenging and she knew she was being a role model for those young ones that the example she set would take root in their lives and make them, in some small way, better people as they grew up. Her goal was always to encourage them to try new things. Kelly loved to always be active. There were few things she liked better than the adventures the family took hiking in the Adirondacks or going camping or taking family vacations. Then there were the adventures she and her friends would get involved in McKenzie and Colby, Susan, Lindsey, Alex and Hannah just to name a few and all the new ones she was making at Ithaca College. Kelly loved to go to wrestling matches and tournaments with her mother. She enjoyed helping her dad with handy-man projects around the house and working on the family cars and trucks She was always in her element when she was hanging out with her brother, Eric, sledding or playing video games Just last weekend she took Eric ice skating for the first time in his life. She tended to be a second mom to her brother Shed make sure he was up in the morning, check to make sure he was doing his homework and that he was behaving in school Kelly was so family centered that she even loved to go grocery shopping with her parents even though the rolling of the eyes and her saying "whatever" in a sassy way wasnt uncommon.Kelly, like almost all teenagers, loved music. She liked all kinds Rock, Country, Modern she even liked what she called "old people music" songs from her parents era. She once surprised her mother with tickets to a Luke Bryan concert at Darien Lake. Kelly loved all animals, but especially her own. Buddy was her constant companion, a Snorkie. Buddy would roll over and thoroughly enjoy Kellys belly rubs. Her most recent pet, a beta fish, she named "FishStick." FishSticks tank sat at the end of Kellys bed and he clearly watched for her every night to feed him Even her fish will miss our dear girl.Kelly graduated in June of 2018 from the Newark Valley Senior High School. During her school years she participated in softball ~ playing any position and volleyball were she served as her teams Libero. In addition she also participated in the High School Band. Kelly was a member of the National Honor Society and finished among the top 20 of her High School class academically. Because both parents work at Ithaca College, Kelly practically grew up there. It was her one and only choice of colleges to attend. She felt at home even before she was a student. She was majoring in Health Science and Human Performance on her way to becoming a Physical Education teacher. Intelligent, capable, kind, loving and lovable, Kelly was a beautiful person in every sense of the word. There wasnt a person who needed help she wouldnt want to help. There wasnt a person who knew her who didnt know they had friend. There isnt a person who loved her who wont miss her always. In addition to her parents and brother, Kelly is survived by her grandparents, Marleta and Allan Anderson of Newark Valley, Teresa Perkins of Johnson City, and Richard Perry of Richford and numerous loving cousins, aunts and uncles. She was welcomed and greeted in heaven by her grandpa Lloyd Perkins; and Grandma Irene Perry. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Friday, March 8th from 4 to 8 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley. A memorial service and celebration of Kellys life will be held on Saturday, March 9th at 2 pm at the Newark Valley High School Auditorium. A dinner will follow in the Multipurpose Room.
