Katherine W. Schultheis

Katherine W. Schultheis, 93, long-time resident of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2012 at J. G. Johnston Nursing Home where she has resided for the past few months.Katherine is survived by her children and their spouses, Willard F. and Ann Schultheis and Lori and Clare Eversdyke. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Robert (Stacie), William, II (Anne Marie), Sara Beth, Michael (Heather) and Melissa; great grandchildren: Haleigh, Cherise, Colin, Margot, Lura, Averie Rose; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William A. Schultheis and siblings: Daniel, Truman E. and Mary.Katherine was born on June 29, 1919 in LeRoy, PA a daughter of the late Truman M. and Edna (Fitch) Kelley. She was a graduate of Canton, PA High School class of 1936 and The Oxford Institute, Chicago, IL. She was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark Valley. A Life Member of ONYX Chapter 196, OES, she served as Past Matron (1961), District Deputy Grand Matron (1973) and was the recipient of the Service Award in 2003. In her early years, Katherine was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She also enjoyed playing Pinochle.Her family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley from 11am until 12:45 PM at which time Eastern Star Services will be conducted. A Funeral Service will follow at 1 PM with her pastor, Rev. Nancy J. Adams, officiating. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
