Katherine Irene Sherman D'Andrea, 87, of Newark Valley, passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2024. Born on February 17, 1937, to the late William “Kenneth” and Emma (Campbell) Shiner.

Katherine dedicated many years of her life to mapping the electric and gas lines for New York State Electric and Gas. Her meticulous work not only demonstrated her unwavering work ethic but also her commitment to the safety and well-being of countless New Yorkers. Her colleagues remember her as a kind-hearted and friendly individual who brought warmth and light to the workplace, she will be missed by her “NYSEG Girls.”

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanine (Chuck) Sherman-Komar and Becky Sherman-Wade; her beloved grandchildren, Shelby Wade-Villarrubia (Austin) and Craig Wade (fiancée Lisa Bullis); and the joyful anticipation of her great-granddaughter, who's due to arrive in February.

In addition to her parents, Katherine was predeceased by her husband Nicholas D’Andrea in 1998.

Katherine's zest for life was evident in her numerous interests and hobbies. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she adored. Among her cherished social circles was the "Golden Age Group," a group of friends with whom she shared many memorable outings and experiences. She also enjoyed going to the local Friday Night Depot Nights and listening to the live music with her family and friends, an event that she never missed.

Many will remember Katherine and her business "Video Genie," on Whig Street in Newark Valley. She offered a place to come chat, play cards, and watch movies to many in the surrounding area.

Katherine's life was one of loving kindness. She was a friend to many, keeping up with each and every one through her daily phone calls to her “Phone Tree Friends. Her presence was a source of comfort and joy to all who knew her. She had the unique ability to make each person feel heard and valued, a quality that endeared her to many.

Friends and family are invited a celebration of her life at on Friday September 13, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY, with Pastor Richard Lloyd officiating.
