Julia A. Julie Tomazin, 79, of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2015 with her loving husband, Joseph and family by her side. With a great amount of strength and courage of her own and support from her family and friends, she has endured an illness for the past 8 years. Julie is survived by her husband Joseph and their children: Carol Gehen, Joseph (Kristine) Tomazin, Deborah (Anthony) DAngelo, Martin (Cynthia) Tomazin, Robert (Julie) Tomazin, and Kenneth (Sheila) Tomazin; 15 adored grandchildren, 19 treasured great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings and their spouses, Arthur and Karen Doolittle, James and Jane Doolittle, Bernadette Slick, Thelma Wright, Delores and Frank Carra; brother-in-law, John Tomazin, sister-in-law Dorothy Ludlam; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her faithful dog Ginger. Julie was born on Feb. 22, 1936 in Uniondale, PA. She was the daughter of the late Cletus and Thelma (Rynearson) Doolittle. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, William and Cletus and son-in-law, Calvin Gehen.Joe and Julie began their married life in Savannah, Georgia where Joe was serving in the Air Force. After Joe's discharge they moved to Newark Valley where they made a home and raised their family. Joe and Julie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 29, 2015. They are an example to family and all who know them of love and commitment through good times and bad. Julie was a faithful and long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Newark Valley where she participated in the Altar and Rosary Society and also assisted in the rectory. Julie also loved her time spent working in The Rainbow Room at Nathan T. Hall Elementary School where she helped and loved many children. Julie was a lady of many talents. Her beautiful hand woven baskets are treasures enjoyed by her family and many friends. Julie was also a skilled seamstress and quilter, an avid gardener and birdwatcher and a great cook, baker and party planner. She seldom needed a reason to have a party or family get-together and especially enjoyed these times during the holidays. One of Julie's greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to share her love for sewing and crafting with them. Following Joes retirement, the snow birds enjoyed their home and church family in Burgaw, NC for many years.Family and friends are invited to celebrate Julies life from 6-8 pm on Wednesday evening, April 29 at MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley and to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 am Thursday. Father Thomas Valenti will officiate. The Tomazin family would like to extend a special thank you to Julie's devoted and kind caregivers: Darlene, Jessica, Janela and Heather.
