Joy Beatrice Smith

BERKSHIRE- Joy M. Smith always wore an angel on her shoulder. On May 23, 2021, shortly after her 89th birthday, her angel beaconed her home. Joy is reunited with her parents, Martin and Fay Moe of Jacksonville; her brother James Moe and her former husband, Donald Smith. Joy is survived by her children, Mark Smith (Jo Ann Collacchi), of Ithaca, Craig (Kathryn) Smith of Columbus, OH, John Smith of Ithaca, and Vicki (Charles) Davis of Richford and her grandchildren Trace and Piper Davis; step-grandson, Jason (Pazy) Davis; her loving niece, Laura Scott; and many other nieces and nephews. Born in Cortland, Joy spent most of her life in the Trumansburg/Jacksonville area, and later, Berkshire, NY. She loved to read, travel, take in natures beauty, but above all, she loved her family and spending every moment possible with her grandkids. She started working at an early age, helping customers at her parents store, Moes Grocery Store, even before she was able to see over the counter. Joy worked as a bookkeeper at many local businesses, including Newport Chevrolet and Maguire Ford; retiring from Tompkins Community Action, where she worked into her seventies. Joy worked tirelessly to raise her four children with limited means. Joys family wishes to thank the staff of Oak Hill Manor for their care and compassion over the last few months, her neighbors, Michelle, Doug and Dawn Walters, for always keeping a watchful eye on her as her dementia progressed and Charles Davis for his daily loving care. Joy will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be held at MacPhersons Funeral Home, Newark Valley, Wed., June 9, from 3:00 4:30pm, directly followed by a brief service. A cordial invitation is extended to family and friends to join us in Berkshire for a reception after the service.
