Joseph Walter CeurterOf BerkshireJoseph Walter Ceurter, 87, of Popple Hill Rd., Berkshire, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his home. Joe is survived by his children: Anita (Charles Jr) Richmond; Clifford Yogi (Kathy) Ceurter; Ronald Ceurter; his sister Dorothy Foux; sisters-in-law: Kay Ceurter and Ethel Ceurter; six grandchildren ~ Bethann, Lisa, Jodi, Magdalene, Avery and Leila; several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive. He was predeceased by his wife Carolyne Virginia (Shrauger) Ceurter in 2002 and brothers George and John.A life-long resident of Berkshire, Joe was born on March 28, 1927 a son of the late Peter Cisco and Magdalene (Klossner) Ceurter. He proudly served his country with the US Army from 1949-1952. For over 30 years, Joe served as a Rural Route Mail Carrier for Newark Valley and Berkshire. In addition, he also served as the Building Inspector for Newark Valley, Berkshire and Richford. He was a dedicated member of the Glenn A. Warner VFW Post 1371 in Owego and served as a Military Ritual Honor Guard Team. Joe was also a member of the Rural Courier Association. He enjoyed hunting, carpentry work and was a true Joe of all trades He will be greatly missed by his family. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 10-11 am at the East Berkshire United Methodist Church. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will follow at 11 am with Rev. Viki S. Andrews and Rev. Dan Martin, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded following the services. Interment and prayers of committal will be in the Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
