Joseph Hutchinson

June 26, 1927 — April 22, 2012

Joseph Joe Hutchinson, of Newark Valley: Early Sunday morning, April 22, 2012 in Raleigh, NC, Joe left his earthly home to be united with his Savior and his beloved wife Edie, as well as the other members of his family. Joe is survived by his loving children: Denise Smith, Dennis Hutchinson and his wife Christie and his cherished grandchildren, Zachary and Emma Lee. Also surviving are his sister-in-law Charlotte Forsey, brother in-law John (Diana) Lyons and several much-loved nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends.Born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland on June 26, 1927 to John and Marion (Black) Hutchinson, Joe was very proud of his Irish heritage. He served in the British Army and later made his way to the US where he married Edie on October 17, 1959 in Newark Valley. They made their first home in Chicago, IL where Denise and Dennis were both born. In 1966, Joe decided that Chicago was too large of a city to raise a family and so they relocated to Newark Valley. Joe was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark Valley; a long time employee at Hollenbecks Sure Save and faithfully served as Newark Valley Town Clerk for 24 years. He loved sports, especially his beloved Chicago Bears, a good joke, and being a resident of Newark Valley. His genuine Irish smile, twinkling eyes and pleasant manners will long be remembered.A Funeral Service and Celebration of Joes Life will be held at 11 AM, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church. His pastor, Rev. Nancy Adams will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Friends are invited to share stories and memories with his family on Monday, April 30th from 4-7 PM at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Whig St., Newark Valley. Friends wishing may kindly direct memorials to his church or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 (www.hospiceofwake.org) in memory of Joseph Hutchinson.
