John W. House, 95, formerly of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024. Born on July 31, 1928, a son of the late Solomon and Olive (Burke) House, John's early years were marked by a spirited dedication to his country, as he proudly served in the U.S. Army.
After his military service, John found joy and purpose in the culinary world, working as a line cook at various esteemed establishments, including Friendly's and A1 in Dryden, NY. His colleagues and patrons alike will remember him not only for his skill at the grill but also for the laughter and light-heartedness he brought into the kitchen every day.
John is survived by his son Jon House, his step son Matthew (Tracy) Cwynar, his sister Gladys Kuther, and his grandchildren Jamie, Shannon, Morgan, and Amber. John is also leaves behind several loving great-grandchildren, and a special niece Debbie.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife Marian in 1993.
Services for John will be held on Friday May 10, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley. Friends and family may gather to share memories from 12:00 noon to the time of service. A private burial will follow at the Chenango Valley Cemetery.
