John H. Stewart, 85, of Pompano Beach, FL, passed away peacefully into the presence of Jesus on October 7, 2025. He was born on March 3, 1940, in a farmhouse near Bellwood Lake in Ontario, Canada.

John lived a life marked by faith, kindness, hard work, and devotion to his family. He had a deep love for the Lord and found great joy in serving others through his friendships, community, and family. He met the love of his life at Otter Lake, a Christian Camp, in Ontario in 1959. They were married in Peoria, IL on New Year’s Eve in 1960.

He began his career with Air Canada in Toronto, Ontario, at age 20, where he worked until 1986. He then moved to Montreal, Quebec, with Air Canada to serve as Executive Director of Operations. In 1992, John happily retired to his Florida home, however continued working at TDNI, and then at a hardware store, in his candy business, and finally as a handyman until the age of 80.

He was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the best neighbor and friend anyone could ask for. John cherished time spent with his family; whether gathered around the table laughing with his great-grandchildren or sharing stories, he was deeply loved by all. Some of his favorite memories included taking photos, boating in Florida, driving his 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible, watching sunsets on Cayuga Lake, downhill skiing in the winter. His love for travel was shown through many memories on cruises and touring the world visiting brothers and sisters in Christ, while enjoying fellowship and the beauty of God’s creation.

John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eleanor Mae (Bruner) Stewart; his sister, Dorothy Sloan (Jim); his brothers, George Stewart (Beverley) and Doug Stewart (Joan); his children, Deborah Caforio (Paul), Paul Stewart (Laura), and Ruth Hernandez; his nine grandchildren, Peter Caforio (Lennette), Ruth Fairbrother (Brent), Rebekah Vos (Chris), Rachel Patinka (Steve), Corey Stewart (Brittany), Amanda Stewart, Jacob Irvine, Caleb Irvine (Haley), and Lucas Irvine; and ten great-grandchildren: Carmella, Neo, Jack, Drew, Maisie, Daphne, Evelyn, Carson, Everleigh, and Jonah. He is also survived by many extended family members, including nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen L. Rennie Stewart and George Alexander Stewart as well as his sister Georgina Stewart Nolan.

A service celebrating John’s life will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Owego Nazarene Church, 3732 Waverly Rd., Owego, NY. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Bill Prost officiating. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow. Always loved, never forgotten, until we meet again in glory.
