John M. Knieriem, 90, of Berkshire (Town of Richford), NY, passed away peacefully and entered his new life on Sunday, August 28, 2016 with his children at his side.John was predeceased by his parents, John and Charlotte Knieriem, and his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy, who passed away in 2006. He is survived by five devoted children and their spouses: Susan and James Kretz, Joan and John Stoughton, Carol Knieriem and Jim Janzen, Dorothy Darcy Friebel, Donald and Amy Knieriem; his nine treasured grandchildren and their spouses: Kimberly and Derrick Pero, Sarah and Domenic Montante, Amy and James VonBramer, Kristin Stoughton, Andrew and Caitlin Friebel, Aaron and Kara Friebel, Laura Friebel, John Knieriem and Scott Knieriem; and his adored seven great grandchildren: Dorothy and Tyler Pero, Salvatore Montante, Tatum VonBramer, Hannah and Naomi Friebel, and Adelaide Friebel. John was a long-time and devoted member of the First Congregational Church of Berkshire, serving as a Deacon and Trustee for many years. He also served as Cub Scout Pack Master and Boy Scout Leader, Fire Commissioner for the Town of Richford, and Trustee for the Berkshire Free Library. John and Dorothy attended monthly get-togethers with the Richford Fellowship group and, before her death, John and Dorothy attended monthly meetings of the Broome County Parkinsons support group.John raised rabbits for over 40 years and received many awards including being inducted into the New York State Rabbit Breeders Association Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed gardening and researching his familys genealogy. John was an engineer for IBM, Endicott and graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now the New York University Tandon School of Engineering) in 1955, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Friends are welcome to join Johns family at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley, NY on Friday, Sept. 2 from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service and Celebration of His Life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Berkshire at 11 am on Saturday, Sept. 3, with burial to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Berkshire.
