John Keener, 77, of Berkshire, NY passed away August 21, 2021. He is survived by his children: Ted Keener, Christine (Willis) Underwood, Tammy Keener, and Lori (Bobby) Piech; his precious grandchildren: Willis, Josh, Brittany, Zach, Jo Jo, Ashley, Lilliana, Niki, David, Dustin, Kirstin, Cole, Tyler, Bobby, Jessie, Tracy, Carrie, Jack, Tasha, Scott, Travis, Rance, and Mattaya; several great grandchildren; sisters: Sally Richardson, Bea Ellison, and Helen Cornell; sister-in-law Bonnie Keener; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was predeceased by his wife, Ann; his parents; his son John Keener, Jr., his brothers Donald Keener and Nate Keener; and sister-in-law Jody Keener. John was born on February 20, 1944 to the late Nathan and Alice (Gillager) Keener. He was a family man through and through. To know Johns family was to know John because his family meant the world to him. He was a strong, and selfless man who spent his whole life living for everyone else. He worked hard to provide for his family, even in the tough times, surviving cancer at a young age and keeping his family together after the passing of his loving wife Ann. Over the years, John held various positions, but his favorite employment was Cornell Barns, where he had many fond times taking his kids to work with him. John enjoyed the simple things in life such as holding his grandbabies and raising the older ones into strong, capable, good people and oh the joy he had when he could hold his great grandchildren! He loved riding his old lawn mower over his land, fishing at the pond with the grandkids, walking across the fields to watch the wild life, and eating the berries and picking the delicious apples. In the evenings he relaxed with his favorite Westerns and enjoyed watching wrestling on Friday nights. John looked forward to his trips with Tammy and her bunch; yardsaling, Walmart shopping, and solar light shopping. Any time spent with family was time well spent no matter how short or inconsequential the task. The car rides to collect cans, visit with family or simply take a trip to the dollar store to buy his favorite chocolates were among his best memories. A period of visitation and celebration of Johns life will be held at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, on Sunday August 29th from noon until 1pm. Memories and condolences may be written in his guestbook at macphersonfh.com. . Visitation MacPherson Funeral Home Sunday, August 29, 2021 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM 5 Whig St Newark Valley, NY 13811
