John James Whitmarsh

John J. Whitmarsh, 81, of Newark Valley, passed away at his home on Oct. 19, 2013 following an illness. He is survived by his children: Dennis Whitmarsh, Sr., David J. Whitmarsh, Darlene K. Bowen and Diane (Stephen) Newbury; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; his former wife, Cora Jean Whitmarsh and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Claude and Sadie (Westfall) Whitmarsh, his siblings Joe Myott, Donald Whitmarsh, Agnes Petzold and Eleanor Sickles.John Served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a former employee of the Great American Store in Owego. He was a life member of the Newark Valley Fire Dept. and Emergency Squad and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 12-1PM at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. A Funeral Service will follow there at 1 PM .
