John E. Northrup, 80, of Berkshire, NY passed peacefully on Monday evening, September 24, 2012, to be united with his Lord and reunited with his son John B. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Betty J. Northrup, his sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Judy Northrup of Fernandina Beach, Fla; Mark and Mary Northrup of Webster, NY; his daughter Teresa Northrup of Essex, MD; grandchildren: James Northrup, Laura Northrup, Angela (Jack) Bowden; great grandchildren: Taylor, Storm, Kristen, Tina and Sara. John was predeceased by his parents and a son John B. Northrup on May 17, 1999.John was born in 1932 in Elmira, NY a son of Lillian and Leon Wheeler. A graduate from Southside High, he proudly served as a petty officer in the US Navy and a graduate of Alfred State. On August 12, 1955, John married Betty Knowles and began their family in Hornell, NY then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1966, they made Berkshire, NY their home. John was an Electrical Engineer for Sandia National Labs Albuquerque, a Manager of Component Engineering at IBM Owego, and later a Consulting Engineer at GE Lockheed Martin/BAE Systems. A lifelong member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Owego and attended St. Johns Episcopal Church, Speedsville, he was devoted to his wife, family and community. John volunteered and was active raising funds for several charities.He loved vacationing with his family at Keuka Lake. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and campfires, coached and mentored the Speedsville Little League Baseball Team, actively involved in electronic technology, advocated for Newark Valley High School national accreditation, avidly walked daily, enjoyed advising young engineers, and restored and repaired old cars. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation for John on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 7 to 9 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Memories and condolences may also be shared by visiting our website at ww.macphersonfuneralhome. com Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 10 am at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Owego with Rev. Geoff Doolittle. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Flemingville Cemetery.
