John E. Adams

John E. Adams, 82, of Berkshire (Speedsville), NY, passed away on September 28, 2023 following an illness.


John or “Trapper” as he was affectionately known, was born on October 30, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY to John and Mary (Stetz) Adams, Sr. In 1958 John answered the call to service and was enlisted in the U.S. Army. It was while he was serving in Berlin, Germany that he met and married his best friend Edeltraud “Edie” Gliege in 1961.


Upon returning home, he began his employment with NYPD, working primarily as a patrol officer in Manhattan for over 12 years.


John and Edie became parents to Robert, Sandra, and Thalya, and in 1980 relocated to Berkshire, NY.

A talented carpenter, John and Edie later opened their own business Edie-Trapper Mill Work in Berkshire, a business they would operate together for over 20 years.


In John’s spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, and his membership at the Berkshire Rod and Gun Club.


“Trapper” will be deeply missed by his wife Edie with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. A son, Robert (Faye) Adams, daughters; Sandra Jerome and Thalya (Christopher) Tauteroff. Grandchildren: Tania (Aaron) Brennsteiner, Anthony (Colleen) Jerome, Mirakal and Trinity Tauterouff, and two great-grandchildren: Aiden and Lucia Brennsteiner. John is also survived by a sister Irene Utz and numerous extended family members.


In addition to Johns parents, John was predeceased by a grandson Elijah Tauterouff and a son-in-law Joseph Jerome.


In honoring Trapper’s wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the First Congregational Church in Berkshire, 12445 State Route 38, Berkshire, NY 13736 in Johns Name.
