John C. Snyder

John C. Snyder, 68,of Richford and formerly of Owego, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Richford on Saturday, January 16, 2010.John is survived by his wife, Lexie (Davey) Snyder, his daughters and their husbands, Andrea and Mike Stewart, Christine Snyder and Mark Griep, Jo and Bill Scheidt, Janene and Skip Williams. Also surviving are his sister Linda (Don) Jayne, 17 grandchildren, one great grandson, his former wife, Marlene Sherman, several cousins and his special canine companion J.J.John was born in Endicott on May 10, 1941, a son of the late Leo and Susie (Hyden) Snyder. In his early years, he was associated with the family business, Snyder Trucking Co. in Owego. He was an employee of the Tioga County Highway Dept. for 23 years, the last few years as foreman. Following that, he was a heavy equipment operator for E. E. Root & Sons Construction Co. in Owego. John was often called 'Digger' or 'The Agitator' by his many friends. He had an innate ability to operate any and all types of heavy equipment. He was a lifetime and very active member of Croton Hose Co. #3, Owego and had also been an active member of the former Legion Ambulance in Owego. John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating and cutting wood and he treasured the many special times he shared with his family, especially, those at Bonin Lake.His family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held there at 11 am on Thursday. Rev. Dennis King, Pastor of Owego Nazarene Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Tioga Cemetery, Owego.
