Joel E. Olson

Softly in the evening you heard a gentle call, you took the hand God offered you and quietly left us all.On Sunday evening, Feb. 5, 2017, our beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend, Joel E. Olson, 42, of Newark Valley and formerly of Maine, passed from this life and was reunited with his grandparents Ralph Gardner (his Buddy), Eugene and Muriel Olson and nephew, Troy Troy Boy Johnson. His memory will be forever cherished by the family he loved so very much; his mother, Dawn Olson, his father, Paul (Judith) Olson, his sister, Betsy (Bryan) Olson, his grandmother, Beverly Gardner, his step brothers, Austin and Aaron Laughlin and his aunts and uncles. Joel was an outstanding uncle to Jordan Johnson and James Craig. Growing up together, all of Joels cousins and friends formed a very close bond, so much so, that to this day, they are all more like brothers and sisters unseparatedeven by distance. Joel was a graduate of Maine-Endwell High School, Class of 92. He took great pride in his carpentry skills- - always striving for perfection. He was kind, loyal, committed and a champion of the underdog; an avid hunter, outdoorsman, animal lover, 4 wheeler and strived to be a scratch golfer. In his mind, he positively knew, there was never be a football or baseball team greater than the Dallas Cowboys or NY MetsEVER! Without a doubt, he had many wonderful traits but Joels warm, embracing hugs will always be remembered. All are welcomed to join his family, share stories and memories at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Friday, Feb. 10 from 11 am -2 pm concluding with a brief ceremony in memory of Joel.In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, kindly consider contributing to charity of your choice in his memory.
