Joan Ann Howland

Joan Ann (Meyer) Howland, 79, of Berkshire, N.Y. passed away, Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at home surrounded by close family and friends. She passed listening to her and David's wedding song "Sleep Walk" and took her last breath when the song ended. Joan Ann "Joanie" was born in Long Island City, N.Y. to Frank and Helen Meyer. She grew up in Astoria, Long Island where she graduated from Greely Junior High School in the Borough of Queens in 1957. Her family then moved to Cortland, N.Y. where she attended Cortland High School and graduated in 1960. She then attended business school. She worked as a Candy Striper at Cortland Memorial Hospital. She also worked for Brockway Motors in Cortland. She met her husband J. David Howland at a picnic they both attended. They married and she learned as well as helped in his family business, Howlands Honey. She ran the honey plant and office until she retired. Joanie was also an active member of the First Congregational Church of Berkshire where she had taught Sunday School, ran the sound system and was in the Choir until her health declined. Joanie is predeceased by her husband David who passed two weeks prior. She died not wanting to continue on without her David. Joanie is also predeceased by her parents and brother, Craig Rand a/k/a Frank Meyer Jr. She is survived by her beloved children Cynthia (GaRoy) Dickinson and Michael Howland. She is also survived by her granddaughter Brianna Dickinson and grandson Tyler Howland. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1pm at the First Congregational Church of Berkshire. The family would like to thank all who helped during Joanies declining health and a special thank you to Marshall Loos , Ashley Bennett and Angels Helping Hands. Once planning is complete, there will be a combined memorial service for Dave and Joanie at the First Congregational Church of Berkshire.
