Jay H. Sykes, Sr.

Jay H. Sykes, Sr., 88, of Candor, NY passed away on September 6, 2021. He is survived by his sons Jay (Sylvia) Sykes, Jr. and Joe (Cathy) Sykes; brother Wayne C. Sykes; sisters Janice (Leon) Gardner and Elaine (John) Hudak; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.Jay was a United States Navy Veteran, proudly serving his country for 20 years in active duty and an additional 3 years in the reserve. He was a member of the Candor America Legion, US Navy Fleet Reserve Association, Moose Lodge 666, and the Ithaca Eagle's Club. In his free time, Jay enjoyed woodworking, and especially making hand crafted furniture.Friends and family are invited to the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, for a period of visitation on Friday, September 10th from 4 to 6 pm at which time a celebration of his life will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans Association in loving memory of Jay.
