James Warren Zimmer

James W. Zimmer, 63, of Maine, NY, passed away on March 11, 2010 following a short illness. Jim is survived by his mother, Elma Zimmer, his loving wife of 43 years, Helen (Horak) Zimmer and his daughters Karen (Todd) Harris and Alissa (John) VanLuvender. He was happily anticipating the birth of his third grandchild in August and adored his two grandchildren Jacob and Lynsey Harris. Also surviving are his brother Jeff (Maureen) Zimmer, many nieces, nephews and cousins, his in-laws; Helen's mother, Helen V. Buran and her siblings, Marilyn (Joseph) Murphy, Judy Horak and Joseph (Lolli) Buran. Jim will also be missed by his many good friends including his special buddies, Eric and Dave. His father, Warren Zimmer, brother, Capt. Jerry Zimmer and infant son Jamie predeceased him as well as his father-in-law, Joseph Buran.Jim was born in Endicott on May 6, 1946. He graduated from Maine-Endwell High School in 1964, attended Cornell University and retired from IBM, Endicott following 30 years of service. Jim savored life and all that was in it. He was an expert Mr. Fix It and had a wonderful way of instructing others so they may also learn just 'how to do it' ! He was an avid outdoorsman, loved the Adirondack Mountains and especially looked forward to the annual spring 'fishing trip' excursions. Jim's family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home 5 Whig St, Newark Valley on Sunday from 3-6 pm. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held there on Monday at 11 am with Pastor Dean W. Masland officiating. Burial will follow in the Maine Cemetery. www.macphersonfuneralhome.com
