James M. Wanck

With heavy hearts filled with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of James Matthew (Matt) Wanck- a wonderful father, son, friend, sports fan and card player. Matt, 45, of Barton, NY, passed away on December 22, 2021. James Matthew-MATT-Wanck was voted in his 1994 Newark Valley Class Yearbook as MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED. That prophecy is fulfilled by his three most amazing children Morgan Jewell, Owen Charles, and Iris Elizabeth. They were each present along with Matt's mother Marylou Alger and Matt's father Glenn Wanck at Matt's peaceful time of transition. Matt was born on Feb. 13, 1976 in Ideal Hospital in Endicott, NY. He was lovingly welcomed into the world by his parents Mary Lou (Mead-ALGER) and Glenn R. Wanck of Owego, NY. Friends and family, who appreciated his quick wit and outspoken approach to the worldly challenges that face us in this earthly journey, will feel the loss of a "true-to-himself", large personality who would stick to his convictions even if challenged. Matt played basketball and golf at Newark Valley High School and continued to follow many sports including wrestling , MMA, football, etc. He seldom missed an opportunity to cheer for his son Owen at every Tioga Center wrestling match or football game and this year enjoyed cheering Tioga Center to their football state championship with his son and father by his side. His many interests included light construction, culinary creations, fishing, hunting, card playing, and employing his very competitive spirit to best his dad in autocross racing. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, on Saturday, January 8th from 1 - 4 pm.
