James 'Jim' Weed

James Weed, 72, a long-time resident of Newark Valley, passed away suddenly on Oct. 24, 2013.Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon (Dalton) Weed and their daughter, Kelly MacInnis, his grandson Stephan Weed, cousin John Chrystler and his children, Sarah and Elizabeth. Also surviving are his brothers: John (Louise) Weed, R. William (Julie) Weed, Danny (Mary) Weed, several nieces, nephews, cousins and Sharons family who were also very close to him: her mother, Eunice Dalton and her siblings: Sally Metzger, Christine (James) Worden, and Timothy (Ann) Dalton. Jim was predeceased by his parents John and Ruth Weed, his son Alan Weed and his father-in-law, Paul Dalton. He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, class of 59 and served in the US Marine Corps. He retired from the 204th Engineer Battalion in 2003. His memberships included: The Marine Corps League-Jim Hatch Detachment 1201, Owego American Legion, Candor Masonic Lodge and the Newark Valley Fire Dept. (Life Member). He retired from Phillips Foundry in 2002. Jim served as the Local Coordinator for the Marine Corps Reserve-Toys for Tots Campaign. In his earlier years he was a meat cutter at many local grocery stores. His cutting skills were utilized again as he and his crew met the needs of many hunters on his own butcher block. He will be greatly missed by many including his friends at Rosies and the Marine Corps League.His family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley on Monday from 4-8 PM. A Celebration of His Life will be held there at 11 am Tuesday. Military Honors will be accorded.
