James M. Giz Pitcher, Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedly on December 16, 2018. He is survived by his children David (Lorie) Pitcher, Jeff Chandler, Denise Pitcher, Caroline Pitcher, and Bonnie (James) Chandler Sherman; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Pitcher and brother-in-law Richard Welch. Several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret Pitcher, Sr, and sisters Nancy Welch, Doris Ridgway, and Jane Brill. Giz has been a long time resident of Berkshire. He served in the US Marine Corp and for many years owned and operated Pitchers Service Station which had been established by his Dad. He retired from MacCormick Center in Brooktondale. Giz was a 50+ year member of the Berkshire Fire Dept and also served as Fire Commissioner. He was an avid sports fan, coached and sponsored many youth sports and followed his children throughout all of their sport activities. He also enjoyed playing cards and his trips to casinos. His memberships included Glen A. Warner VFW Post 1371 and the American Legion. Family and Friends are invited to attend Military Honors Service at Vestal Hills Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 1 oclock. Memorials may be directed to the Berkshire Fire Dept. in memory of James M. Pitcher, Jr. MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting the family.
