James D. Ridgway

James D. Ridgway, 92, of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully at his home, in the presence of his family on Sept 21, 2018. Jim is survived by his children Roxann Ridgway and Matt Ridgway; Roxann's daughter Sheila Vedo and fiance Al Steenrod; Sheilas children Ciana and Logan, and Ciana's daughter, great great grandchild Bella; Matt's daughters: Martha and Jane; Martha's children: Shaelyn, Brianna, Leah and Daryn; his sister, Eleanor Van Gorder, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, James C. Ridgeway and Florence (Campbell) Ridgway, he was predeceased by wife Doris and his grandson Timothy.In 1944, Jim graduated early from Newark Valley High School to serve his country in the Navy. He was proud to have operated an amphibious landing vehicle in the battle of Okinawa. Following his Naval service, Jim was employed at IBM, Owego, until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors- hunting, fishing, and gardening, day trips and vacationing, and searching for old bottles to add to his antique collection. He was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan.Friends wishing to remember Jim with a memorial gift are asked to kindly consider the Newark Valley Fire Dept. There will be a private celebration of his life held at the convenience of the family. The MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, is assisting the family with arrangements.
