Jacqueline M. Jewett, 85, a life-long resident of Berkshire, NY, passed away on May 24, 2024 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City, NY. She passed following years battling the debilitating disease of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
Jackie is the daughter of the late Harry and Harriette (Tompkins) Lant and wife of the late John E. Jewett.
She is survived by her daughters Kelly Jewett and Rose (David) Stack and cherished grandchildren Alex Jewett Stack and Andi Marie Stack; her siblings Betty Doolittle and Paul (Sandy) Lant. Her brother, Dale Lant, just perished in a house fire on April 12, 2024 and her sisters Beverly Lant Monk and JoAnn Lant Kenyon Foster passed a few years earlier. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and extended members of the Davis Family through John’s sister, Beverly Davis.
The Lant and the Jewett families have lived in the Berkshire area since 1800. Jackie, therefore, was related to many, many people. She never met a stranger. Personable, loquacious and caring, you were her friend after a few minutes of chatting!
John and Jackie operated a dairy farm in Berkshire throughout their life. Jackie was always busy… milking cows, baling hay, tending a garden (where the weeds seemed to win every year), and was also an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. Organic gardens were Jackie’s norm long before they were ‘in‘!
Her gardens thrived and she truly enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labors and her baked goodies with everyone. Her pie donations were prize items at all local functions.
Jackie treasured her community. The beautiful Gazebo, located next to the Berkshire library, fire station and community center, was donated by Jackie and dedicated to her husband John.
The family is very thankful to the team of home health and companion caregivers who elevated the quality of her life and enabled Jackie to live a life of freedom, mobility, and continued community involvement in her cherished home. Special assistance was also provided by Paul and Tom who were always there for extra duties. Jackie was a member of the Berkshire United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home on Wednesday evening May 29th from 5-7 pm. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Jackies life will be held there on Thursday morning at 10 am with Pastor Dennis Prentice officiating. Jackie will be laid to rest next to her beloved John in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire. On-line memories and condolences may be written in her guest book at macphersonfh.com
