Jack R. Kinney, 70, of Getzville, NY (formerly Newark Valley) passed away on January 25, 2022. Jack was born on May 31, 1951 a son of the late Lawrence and Marian (Hinrichsen) Kinney. He is survived by his brother Roger D. (Sharlene) Kinney, children Rachel E. (Ken) Seibert, Kevin Kinney, Michelle (Daniel) Henry and 5 grandchildren: Tyler Kinney, Christina Henry, Daniel Henry Jr, Violet Seibert and Olivia Seibert. Jack grew up, close to many neighboring relatives, on West Creek Road in Jenksville, NY, and graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1969. He was an avid member of marching band, playing the trombone since junior high school. Jack went to Hartwick College and then moved to Syracuse where he worked to complete his bachelors degree as an RN. Jack worked in several hospitals in Syracuse and capped his nursing career with 16 years at the Red Cross. Jack was a people person and was truly his happiest when spending time with his family, church friends, and grandchildren. As an active member of the United Methodist Church, Jack had a deep and enduring faith. This is evident in his own private ministry of handing out the Upper Room Daily Devotional to members of the church and going door to door to hand out meals to the shut ins. Jack also completed his certification to become a Lay Leader and spent time spreading the word of God at the Killiwog Methodist Church. Jack would talk to anyone and gave the biggest and longest hugs. He enjoyed reading, movies, collecting stamps and attending the state fair and many concerts with his daughter Rachel. While his death was unexpected, his friends and family will hold his memory close in their hearts. He will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the MacPherson Funeral Home (5 Whig St, Newark Valley) from 10AM to 12PM, followed by a service at 12pm with Pastor Brandilynne Craver of the First United Methodist Church, Newark Valley. Burial for immediate family members will be in the Glen Hope Cemetery. A celebration dinner will be held at 2:00 at the Trout Ponds, pavilion #2, in Newark Valley.
