Jack N. Gunther

Jack N. Gunther, 62, of the Town of Candor, passed away at his home Friday evening June 8, 2012 following one hell of a fight with an unforgiving illness.Jack is survived by his sons: Jack J. and Cheryl Gunther, Shawn N. and Heather Gunther, his Mother, Ruth Gunther and brother, Dale and Karen Gunther. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ashley, Erin, Wyatt, Hailey and Alexis, nieces and nephews: Todd Gunther, Sharon Ludwig, Richard Hayes, Jackie Hayes several aunts, uncles and cousins.He was predeceased by his father Francis Gunther, sister, Carole, nephew Steven Gunther and niece Doreen Hayes.Jack was born on Nov. 26, 1949 in Endicott, NY. He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of 1968 and was a US Army Veteran. He served in Vietnam and was a recipient of 2 Bronze Stars. He was a member of Glen A. Warner VFW Post 1371, Owego. Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed a variety of occupations..in particular, family farming, working in the woods, driving truck and operating many different kinds of equiptmentwith snow plowing being a favorite. He was known for truly enjoying all of the work he did. He was an employee of the Owego Highway Dept. for 11 years followed by 22 years of devoted service with the Town of Candor Highway Dept. He loved all of Nature and especially enjoyed himself with family and friends.His family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley from 10am until the time of the service at 12 Noon. Pastor William Haynes, his friend, will officiate at the Memorial Service and Full Military Honors will be accorded.
