Jack D. French

of Newark Valley

Jack D. French, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, at the age of 87. Jack's warm smile and generous spirit were a beacon of light for all who knew him.

Jack's life was a testament to the love and dedication he had for his family and his country. After graduating from Newark Valley High School in 1955, he honorably served three years in the US Army, 535 Army Engineers from 1955 – 1958.

On August 8, 1959, Jack married the love of his life, Donna Brewer, and together they built a family founded on love, respect, and joy. A loving father, Jack is survived by his children, Jack (Sharon) French, Bonnie (Randy) Coffin, and Beth (Tom) Malone. His legacy includes his adored grandchildren, Alissa (Jay) Faber, Megan (Joe) Reeder, Cameron Coffin (Dakota), Kacie Coffin (Jeff), Kyle Coffin, Riley Malone, and Mackenzie Malone, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Bentley, Blake, Ava, and Eli. His life was a tapestry woven with the love and memories of his family, including several nieces, nephews, cousins, and the 535 Army Engineers and their families. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Marian French; his siblings, Judy Duran, Jim, Jerry, and Joe French; and his faithful canine companion, Max.

Jack's professional life was marked by a dedicated 27-year career at IBM Owego as a Waste Water Treatment Analyst and a school bus driver who greeted every child with a smile. He retired at the venerable age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to his colleagues and community.

An avid NASCAR enthusiast, Jack enjoyed cheering on Terry Labonte and Kyle Larson, demonstrating his love for the sport. Fishing, family camping at Hidden Pines, and golfing were among his favorite pastimes. Jack's heart was always with his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was at a campground or on the sidelines of a game. He was their biggest fan, always present with a beaming smile and words of encouragement.

In the end, Jack was more than just a husband, father, a grandfather, a brother, and a great friend. He was a beacon of love, generosity, and friendliness. His life was a testament to the beauty of service, to the joy of community, and to the enduring power of family. His memory will be cherished, his spirit will be missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire.
