Henry A. Dingman

April 23, 1938 — August 24, 2024

Henry A. Dingman, 86, of Newark Valley, and formerly of Berkshire, passed away on August 24, 2024. Born on April 23, 1938, the son of the late Andrew and Helen (Smith) Dingman, Henry's life was marked by his thoughtful nature, his love for storytelling, and his commitment to his craft and community.

Henry is survived by his Children Don (Patty) Dingman, Sheryl (Todd) Cawley, his beloved grandchildren Jacob Cawley, Erin Cawley, Kelly Cawley, Tessa (Rob) Peretore, his great-grandchildren Samara, Grace and Bella, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be missed by his neighbors Arnie and Peg Williams and Steve Morris.

Henry spent many years shaping the world around him as a skilled carpenter. He was a 63-year member of Carpenters Local 281. His work not only stands as a testament to his talent but also to his dedication to the trade. Henry was a true craftsman, taking pride in every joint he fitted and every structure he helped to create.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Henry was a jack of all trades who found joy and purpose in "tinkering" in his barn. His hands were rarely still, always busy with a new project or lending assistance to a neighbor in need.

Henry's love for storytelling was as much a part of him as his talent for woodworking. He delighted in reminiscing about his younger years, sharing tales that captivated and entertained his listeners. His stories were a bridge to the past, filled with wisdom, humor, and a touch of nostalgia.

A doting grandfather, Henry cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was always eager to check in with them, share in their achievements, provide guidance, and let them know how proud he was of them.

Throughout his life, Henry remained fiercely independent, a trait that earned him great respect from those who knew him. He navigated his journey with a quiet confidence, always ready to offer a helping hand or a kind word. His thoughtfulness extended beyond his immediate circle, touching the lives of many in his community.
