Hazel E. Bixby

Hazel E. Bixby of Newark ValleyHazel E. Bixby, 75, passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on the morning of August 18, 2009. Hazel was born on Oct. 8, 1933 in Endicott, NY a daughter of the late Raymond and Hildred (Horan) Enright. She was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of 1953 and was a former employee of Albany Ladder Co. in Vestal. Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Donald P. Bixby, on Jan. 20, 2004 and by her brothers William, Raymond, Keith and infant brother Elwood Enright. She will be greatly missed by her children: James and Debra Bixby, Chenango Forks, Cindy and Dr. David Yingling, Cape Girardeau, MO., Patricia and Robert Shirley, Maine, NY, Susan Molyneaux, Newark Valley, Sherry and Joe Tennant, Newark Valley, Linda Bixby, Endicott; her grandchildren: Nicholas and Justin Bixby, Michael Yingling, Sara Saupe, Meghan Buhs, Daniel Yingling, Heather and Jennifer Shirley, Eric, Bryan and Lindsey Tennant; her great grandchildren: Eric, Hailey, McKenna, Andrew, Anna, Blake; her brothers: Kenneth Enright, Ralph 'Peanut' and Hazel Enright, sister, Fannie Martinek, great aunt, Marion Bennett and many good friends including Gladys Stoughton, Carol Shellhammer and Genevieve 'Chub' Legg.Hazel was a member of the Newark Valley Senior Citizens and enjoyed traveling with the group. She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards, reading and dining out.A funeral service and celebration of Hazel's life will be held at 10 am on Friday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Rev. James T. Willard will officiate. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. The family will receive their friends Thursday evening from 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
