Harriet A. Barrett

June 6, 1917 — March 5, 2009

Harriet A. Barrett 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 5, 2009. Harriet is survived by her loving family: sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Paul W. and Shirley Barrett, Merwin J. and Joanna Barrett; her daughters and son-in-law, Norene May Barrett, Hazel Louise Barrett, Crystal Marie and Barry Rainaud; her sister Wanita Springer; and brother Roger (Georgia) Westgate; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born on June 6, 1917, Harriet was a daughter of the late William and Hazel (Paul) Westgate. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Weller H. Barrett (2006), her son William M. Barrett, her brother Harold Westgate, and her grandson David Barrett. Harriet was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley where she taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade Sunday School. She and Weller also served as AWANA Missionaries in New England. Harriet was an artesian with her needle and crafted many beautiful crocheted, knitted and tatted items. She also enjoyed bird watching and painting but her happiest moments were in her kitchen baking some of the best cookies and tastiest doughnuts in the world. The family will receive friends TODAY, Sunday, from 3-5 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley and on Monday from 10 - 11 am at the First Baptist Church, Newark Valley. A funeral service and celebration of Harriet's life will follow there at 11 am with Pastor Michael Spiegel officiating. Interment will be in West Newark Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Harriet with a memorial donation are asked to kindly consider the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley in her memory.
