Harold O Arnold

Harold O. Arnold, 76, of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on Sept. 24, 2010 following a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Donna (Hoskins) Arnold; his devoted children, Richard and Karen Arnold, Michelle (Shelly) Arnold, Marlys and Mathew Modica, Gail Bozydaj. Also surviving are his siblings, Thomas Jr. and Betty Arnold, James and Pat Arnold, Jack and Sandie Arnold, Gary Arnold, Bob and Marcia Arnold, Beverly Spencer, Shirley and Myron Whitmore, Carol and Bob Cortland, Betty Schrann, Barbara and Mike Kerneklian; his cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Evan, Heather, Mindy, Rebecca, Nicole, Kayla; great-granddaughter, Karina; many nieces, nephews and cousins. His devoted dog Annie will miss him too. Born on May 9, 1934 in Owego, NY, he was a son of the late Thomas and Josephine (Vallery) Arnold. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Billy, Earnest, Billy, and his sister Mary Lou Doty. Harold was a former employee of Cadre Co. and retired from the Federal Government following 15 years of service. At the age of 50, he began horseback riding with his daughter Shelly. He soon became skillful, especially in gymkhana games. In addition he enjoyed hunting, computers, sports (Giants and Dodgers), and reading western novels. His family was most important to him but he also enjoyed his neighbors, and many friends.Harold's family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Tuesday, from 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM with Rev. Howard Lucy officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
