Harold I. Mike Hitchcock, 75, of Newark Valley, passed away on Oct. 17, 2008. Mike is survived by his son, James (Cynthia) Hitchcock, daughters, Janice (Donald) Stephens, Joyce (Donald) Corson, Donna (Albert) Harrington, grandchildren, Carrie, Kelly, Tamara, Jennifer, Stacy, Sara, Donald, Jr., Julie, Teresa and Ashley, great grandchildren, Raechelle, Mason, Taliah. Mike is also survived by his brother Eugene (Betty) Hitchcock and sister, Violet Sivers, several nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his wife Beverly in 2003.Born on May 11, 1933 in Herrickville, PA, Mike was the son of Harold I. and Elizabeth Wells Hitchcock. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army; a 26 year employee of GAF and retired from HADCO, Owego following many years of service there. He was a member of Glen A. Warner VFW Post 1371, Owego, the Newark Valley Senior Citizens, serving as President for the past 3 years, a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels, a Friendship Caller to shut-ins and enjoyed working with wood and various crafts. In his early years, Mike was an avid hunter. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Rev. James Willard will officiate. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery with full military honors accorded. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday evening at the MacPherson Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to VFW Post 1371, Owego, NY 13827 or the Newark Valley Senior Citizens c/o Mary Shellhammer, 59 Maple Ave., Newark Valley, NY 13811 in loving memory of Mike Hitchcock.
