Harold 'Hal' Bartz

Harold F. Hal Bartz, 85, passed away at his home in Newark Valley on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.Hal is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elisabeth Betsy Bartz and his cherished daughter Meg (Dale) Ward. Also surviving are his grandchildren Joseph, Ryan, Sierra (Josh), Paul (Angel);brother, Ernest Bartz; nephews, Daniel and Timothy; nieces, Judith, Alayne, Ellen and Susan.He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Marjorie Bartz, his son, Charlie, brother, James, nephew Steven and niece Cynthia.Hal was a devoted member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Owego, where he had served as Senior Warden, member of the Vestry, and joyfully sang with the choir for 53 years. He also sang with the IBM Mens Glee Club. Hal served in the US Army, and retired from IBM, Owego following 30 years of service. Many musical events were professionally recorded by Hal including those performed by the Binghamton Community Orchestra, Newark Valley Christmas Cantata, Kirby Band and school concerts.Friends are invited to share their special memories with his family at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Tuesday, July 30th from 4-6 pm. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life will be held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Owego on Wednesday at 11 am. Fr. Geoffrey Doolittle will officiate.
