H. Maxine Brandes

Helen Maxine Brandes, age 89, of Elderwood Assisted Living, Latham, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Rehab Center. Maxine was born on June 29, 1931 to the late Edwin and Ella Fiske. Maxine was born and raised in Newark Valley, NY, where she attended school. After her graduation from Newark Valley High School, Maxine met her late husband, Charles. Maxine and Charles remained in Newark Valley where they raised her family. After the death of her husband, Maxine worked first as a bank teller and then for many years at IBM in the Human Resources and Accounting departments. To escape from the cold northeast, Maxine lived for many years in Destin, FL. Later in her life, Maxine moved to Saratoga Springs, NY to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, cheering on her beloved New York Yankees, watching and playing golf, and making sugar cookies for her grandchildren. Maxine is survived by her dear sister, Mildred Tull; her wonderful children, Marsha Brandes (Mark Meachem), Daniel (Chery) Brandes and Melanee (Ed) Wixted; her adored grandchildren, Colin (Abigail) Meachem, Jeremy and Maxine Brandes-Hernandez, and Eddie (Katherine), Scott (Kyle) and David Wixted; and her beloved great grandchildren, Noah, Teddy, Eddie IV and Annabelle. Along with her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles A. Brandes, and her siblings, Marian Bridges, Mary Noble, and Robert Fiske. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, NY, on Saturday, June 19th from 10-11. A Celebration of her life will take place there at 11 O'clock.
