Grady W. Whittenburg, 70, passed away peacefully, Friday, Sept 26, 2008. Gradys loving wife of 45 years, Gin, was at his side, as she has always been, especially these past four years during Grady's illness. Grady was born on Jan 10, 1938 in Crossville, TN a son of the late Curtis and Sallie (Beattie) Whittenburg. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Bouton) Whittenburg and his son and daughter-in-law, Grady Jr. and Vonnie Whittenburg. Also surviving are his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of, Stefan, Jenna and Marc, his sisters, Iva Dee Hicks, and Judy (Frank) Rodgers and his brother, Freddie (Louella) Whittenburg; Ginny's family, April and Ron Harris, Joan and George Nalepa, Charlotte and Skip Williams, Syd and Linda Bouton, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Grady was predeceased by his brothers Glen and Perry Whittenburg.A loving family man, Grady was actively involved in Little League and Teener League with his son. He was a member of Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, and a former employee of Universal Instruments. As a technically talented and self taught man in the field of electronics, he established and co-owned both Vestal Electronic Devices and Eastern Electronic Devices. In his early forties, he began playing golf, became an avid golfer and subsequently became co-owner of the Belden Hill Golf Club in Harpursville. His ever present smile, twinkling eyes and presence will be greatly missed.A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, Oct. 1st. at the MacPHerson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Rev. Clarence Cerwonka, pastor of Most Holy Rosary Church, will officiate. His family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Berkshire Emergency Squad, PO Box 506, Newark Valley, NY 13811, in loving memory of Grady Whittenburg.
