Grace G Mcqueen

Grace George McQueen, 93, formerly of Greene and Newark Valley, New York, passed away in her sleep at sunrise on Saturday November 17, 2018. She was born on February 10, 1925 in Far Rockaway, New York to the late Harold Ulysses and Margaret McKay Berrien George. Grace is survived by her son, James McQueen (Rosemary Truman), daughter, Nancy (Matt) Thompson, daughter, Bonnie (Allen) Baker, daughter Laurie King, daughter-in-law Jenny McQueen, eleven grandchildren, Robert (Lisa) McQueen, William Morse, Sarah (Ricardo) Grisolini, Abigail (Marty) Sisson, Brittany (Daniel) Smith, Peter (Claire)Thompson, Mark Thompson, Brandon, Caleb and Danielle King and Lindsay McQueen as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter McQueen, and her son Scott McQueen. Grace developed a skill for sewing as a young girl. She had a passion for fabric design and quilting. She passed her skill to others by teaching at Cornell Cooperative Extension and later from her home studio for many years. She leaves behind many friends and fellow fiber artists. As a child, Grace enjoyed kayaking in Jamaica Bay, New York. Grace loved to socialize and was always ready for a picnic or a party. She loved fish fry and ice cream and rarely said no to either. After her five children were grown and gone, Grace heeded her adventurous side by joining a hiking club and walking hundreds of miles around the country. Graces talented spunk and spontaneity will be missed. A special thank you to the staff of Cortland Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center whose skilled and gentle care helped make her final years comfortable. Services will be held at United Church of Christ, 32 South Main Street, Newark Valley, New York at noon on Saturday December 1, 2018 with a luncheon to follow in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cortland Memorial Foundation Employee Assistance Fund in memory of Grace.
