Gloria Jean Zukowski, 80, of Berkshire, passed away on January 20, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. Born on August 19, 1944, the daughter of the late Robert and Juanita (Cortright) Sherwood, Gloria’s life was one marked by a profound dedication to her family and her faith.
She is survived by her loving children Lorie (David) Pitcher and Randy (Wendy) Zukowski, her grandchildren Shelby (Devin) Beach and Matthew (Melanie) Pitcher, Kara (Ubaldo) Vargas Jr., Ryan (Kelsy) Earl, Nicole Earl, her beloved great grandchildren Emma, Lydia, Eliana, Olivia, Harper, and Lennon.
Gloria will be missed dearly by her siblings Robert Sherwood, Joel (Julia) Sherwood, Sharon (Charles) Neiss, her sisters-in-law Midge Sherwood, Marion Reynolds and Alicia Zukowski, and her beloved Aunt Kathlein Lane, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles Zukowski, and her brother William Sherwood.
A proud graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of 1962, Gloria carried the spirit of her education throughout her life. Her career spanned 29 years as an administrative assistant at Cornell University, where she became a cherished member of the institution before retiring in 2001.
Gloria's interests were as varied as they were passionate. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling with her family and all family events. She loved to go to community theatre plays and Daniel O’Donnell concerts.
Her faith played a central role in her life, and for over 50 years, she was a devoted member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Speedsville. There, she taught Sunday school, brought cheer through the church sunshine committee, and served on the altar guild, touching lives with her grace and devotion.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gloria’s life on Saturday February 1, 2025, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Speedsville, the church she so loved, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Pat Kinney officiating. A period of visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Immediately following the services, please join the family in celebrating Gloria’s life at the Speedsville Community Hall.
