Gertrude Trudy Vanek

Gertrude 'Trudy' Vanek, 88, formerly of Newark Valley, passed away at Pleasant View Health Care Center in Barberton, OH where she has resided for the past several years. Trudy is survived by her children: Robert J. Vanek, Nancy (David) Havel and Cindy (Walt) Daunhauer; grandchildren: Ryan, Nadine, Jerrod, Karen and Daniel;several great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Jennie Sarnacki, Margaret Vanek, Mary Vanek and a nephew, Jan Blanchard.Trudy was born on May 28, 1925 in Endicott a daughter of Joseph and Gertrude (Cook) Hughes. She was married to Roberts S. Vanek who predeceased her on Jan 19, 1997.She was a long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley and the Alter/Rosary Society. She will be remembered by many who enjoyed her outstanding cakes and cookies and also by many now grown children who remember Trudy as their favorite baby sitter.
