When I stand before God, at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could honestly say, I used everything you gave me.Gerald D. Tull, 88, of Maine, NY passed peacefully away on December 25, 2015.Born on Oct. 24, 1927 in the Town of Maine, Gerry was the son of the late DeVer and Lona (Lindsey) Tull. He was predeceased by his siblings, Clyde, Merle, Nellie and Vera and his wife of 53 years, Evelyn (Holmes) Tull. Gerry is survived by his loving children: Gary (Bess) Tull, Randy (Marsha) Tull, Terry (Deb) Tull, Larry (Lucy) Tull, Robin (Brad) Galusha, Lona (Mike) ONeil; brother, Gordon (Millie) Tull and sister Evelyn Martin. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.Gerry was an alumni (46) and star baseball player of Newark Valley High School.Shortly after graduation, he received a written invitation to report for training camp with the Richmond Roses (now Atlanta Braves). He chose to return home following the camp but his love for the game never faded and his loyalty to the NY Yankees only increased over the years! Gerry served with the US Navy from 1948-1952, married in 1950 and opened Gerry Tulls Store (now a landmark in the Town of Maine) in 1959. His dedication to customers and hard-working skills along with the help of Evelyn enabled his store to thrive and survive well beyond the arrival of modern convenience stores. Son Randy is now proprietor. In addition to running the store, Gerry worked for the Town of Maine for a total of 19 years serving 6 years as Town Judge and 12 years as Town Supervisor. He was also instrumental in establishing the Maine Ambulance, purchasing land for the town park, and upgrading the Town Hall. In his spare time he was an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting and raising horses for harness racing. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation and sharing of memories at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 29th from 4-7 pm.A Funeral Service and celebration of his life will be held there on Wednesday at 10 am followed by burial in the Maine Cemetery with full Military Honors.
