Genevieve L. Legg

Surrounded by her family and friends, Genevieve L. Legg Chub, 95, of Whig Street, Newark Valley, went peacefully to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT. Genevieve is survived by her son and daughter in law: Jack and Sue Legg of Apalachin; daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca and Ray Ortega of Guilford, CT; her grandchildren: Brian Legg; Travis Ortega and Sarah Ortega, as well as several nieces and nephews. Genevieve was predeceased by her husband Russell E. Legg, her brothers and sisters: Harry VanRiper, Charlotte R. Mundt, Mildred Riegal, Alfred VanRiper, Helen Pedro, Lena Bowen, and Floyd Bud VanRiper, and several nieces and nephews.Genevieve was born on August 24, 1919 in Binghamton, NY a daughter of the late Floyd Edward and Lena (Cortright) VanRiper. Chub was an avid bowler, enjoyed quilting, playing cards and bingo, and was also a member of the Newark Valley Senior Citizens. However, her greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. Her gentle ways, caring heart and contagious laugh will be greatly missed by her family and friends.Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, December 8, 2014, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will follow with Pastor Timothy Middleton Sr., officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will be in Hope Cemetery.
