Gary D. Casterline, 82, of Newark Valley and formerly of St. Cloud, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024. Born on May 21, 1942, a son of the late Leo and Dorothy (Horton) Casterline, Gary's life was marked by his dedication to craftsmanship and his service to his country.
Gary is survived by his son, Michael Casterline, his niece and caretaker for the last four years, Lora Corson (Troy Tingley), great nieces Rachelle Huston and Lindsay Corson, a great nephew William Corson IV, a step niece Joree Gregrow, as well as a large extended family: Jocelyn Tingley, Ruth Tingler, Malik King, Jaracz King, and Faith Harris. He is also survived by a special friend, Cindy Washburn.
In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Casterline and sister and brother-in-law Linda and Nelson VanDerMark.
Gary proudly served in the United States Army, a period in his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried into all his endeavors. After his military service, he channeled his talents into a successful career in construction and fabrication. His hands could as deftly navigate the intricacies of delicate woodwork as they could command the robust challenges of construction sites.
Those who knew Gary understood that he was the epitome of "handy." There was no task too complex or too trivial for his capable hands. His wisdom was evident in the meticulous care he took with every project, and in the sage advice he offered to friends and colleagues alike. Gary's work was more than a job; it was a testament to his belief in the value of hard work and the importance of leaving something lasting and beautiful behind.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the care they received from Broome Oncology and Lourdes Hospice.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date. Memories and condolences can be shared in his guestbook online at www.macphersonfh.com. The family is under the caring guidance of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
