Frederick S. Mauersberg, 83, of Owego, passed away Friday morning, March 30,2012 at Wilson Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family . Fred was born in Sigel, PA on Aug. 14, 1928 a son of William and Hazel (Songer) Mauersberg. Following graduation from Sigel High School he assisted with the operation of the family lumber mill for a while and then served 2 years in the US Army. He received a BS in electrical Engineering from Penn State and was a 26 year employee of IBM Federal Systems Division retiring in 1991. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Catherine (Beichner) Mauersberg and their children: Michael (Janie Every) Mauersberg, Linda (Bill) Austin, Stephen (Joan) Mauersberg and Diane (Ronald) Geiger. Also surviving are his 8 very special grandchildren: Ellen Austin and fiance Adam Hall, B.J. Austin, Jennifer Mauersberg, Matthew Mauersberg, Annie, Casey, Ronnie and Nikki Geiger; his siblings: Walter (Patricia), Arnold (Carol) and Richard (Carol) Mauersberg, Louise Hudak, Mary (Joseph) Bauer, Catherines brother and sister, Eugene (Dorothy) Beichner, Evelyn (Francis) Lauer, many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings William, Margaret Otto, Kenneth, Robert and Gerald Mauersberg.Fred and Catherine are devoted members of Blessed Trinity Parish at St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley where Fred served as an usher for many years. They have enjoyed square dancing with the Shirts and Skirts, traveling and cruises. Fred also enjoyed woodworking and gardening.His family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Sunday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley where recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:45. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 am on Monday with his pastor, Rev. William A. Moorby officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
