It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Elizabeth Ann Luszczek (Nee Waitl) on April 18, 2025.
Better known as Liz or Lizzy, mom was born on December 11, 1936.
She was predeceased by her husband Chester (Chet) Luszczek, son Chester Jr. (Chip) Luszczek and daughter-in-law Jeanette Wiiki.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Callahan, her children Julie (Robert) Allen, Chris (Deb) Luszczek and Jody Luszczek. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Scott (Hannah) Allen, Bradley (Chelsey) Allen, Christopher (Samantha) Luszczek, Joshua Luszczek, Andrew Luszczek, Hannah (Sean) Daughtery and Annie Parker as well as great grandchildren, Kendra Luszczek, James Allen, Lance Allen, Zachary Parker, Samantha Parker and Alexis Parker.
Mom was an extremely hard working and caring woman that loved her family first and foremost. She instilled values in us such as the basic never steal, never lie, never cheat, Mr. and Mrs. are standard if they’re your elders, people respect people who work hard but most importantly, you will not come into this house to have supper unless every animal in that barn is taken care of first! Mom was also adamant that “barn clothes” were “barn clothes” and not to be worn in public.
Mom also had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She would sit on our front porch to watch all our high school friends have truck pulls, thoroughly enjoying our shenanigan’s. Once, when a bunch of us kids were ice skating on the pond below the house at dusk, she set my brother up with a big black cloak to slowly amble down the hill towards the pond. Someone yelled “Bear Bear”! and we all took off trying to run up a dirt road on ice skates only to find her on the back porch laughing hysterically.
She didn’t believe in padding or spanking but could shame you with her silence. Or, if we were really in trouble, she would simply say “Run, just run”. Looking back, we should’ve been some of the best cross-country runners in school.
Occasionally, but not very often, her temper would flare up, such as the time she threw the perogies dough out the kitchen window because it was sticking to the rolling pin and splash!!..It landed in our kiddie pool.
Mom could do almost anything or so to us it seemed. She milked cows, patched our jeans, always had a good supper on the table and loved us kids unconditionally.
She started working at Hadco in her 40’s and thoroughly enjoyed her job and co-workers. Upon retiring, she went back to farming by helping us kids with chores on our respective farms, tidying up our houses or dropping off “flat packs”, her term for frozen leftovers.
Mom was well known for her large garden, beautiful flower beds and her infamous apple cake.
It is extremely difficult to sum up such a wonderful lady in an obituary. Mom had a sign that read “I loved growing up on a dirt road. All the ruts led right to mom’s”.
The family would like to thank the staff at Athens Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for their care of mom over the last four months and a very special thank you to Deb Luszczek for everything she has done for mom.
