Eldred Conklin

Eldred Ed Conklin, 83, of Cortland, passed away following a protracted illness on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sarah Sally (Lawton) Conklin, and their children: Stephen and Viola Conklin, of Homer, Rebecca (Conklin) and Stan Macchione, of UT, Geren and Stacey Conklin, of UT, Valerie and Allen Schuele, of RI, Rachel Wright, of Homer, Michael and Cindy Conklin, of UT. Also surviving are his 10 cherished grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 5 nephews. Born in Troupsburg, NY on May 30, 1931, he was a son of the late Guy and Agnes (Baker) Conklin. Ed was a self-taught exceptionally skilled electrician, tradesman with a passion for sharing his knowledge. Many young men began their tradesmen careers under his tutelage; his willingness to mentor extended well into his retirement years. His ability to diagnose problems and repair anything electrical was so remarkable it appeared to be an innate ability rather than learned. Spanning his career he had a long and productive partnership with Rood Utilities in Auburn NY; where he fixed their most difficult problems and taught Roods highly sought after Electrical / Heating classes. He was a maintenance supervisor at SCM in Cortland for many years and retired from the former Prosco Products, Inc also in Cortland. Services for Ed will be private and burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting with arrangements.
