Elaine K. Stocking, 86, a longtime resident of Newark Valley, passed away on
April 26, 2024. Born on June 25, 1937, in Portland, Oregon to the late Arthur
and Tilda Slocum, Elaine's life was a tapestry woven with passion, kindness,
and an unwavering dedication to her family, students, and community.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband Charles, with whom she spent 62
years of marriage, her children: Kirstine (Delbert) Armstrong, Randy (Diana)
Stocking, Johnathan (Ashleigh) Stocking, and Steven Stocking, her
grandchildren she cherished: Corinne, Douglas, Henry, Susan, Jeuneaux,
Bowie, Teagan, Branleigh, Justin, Brittney, and great-grandchildren Mklaynie, Grayson,
Bryleigh and Kaiden, her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Mercia
Stocking, a large extended family also survives.
In addition to her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her siblings Kenneth
Slocum, Dorothy Burmester, and Georgia Outz.
As a young adult, Elaine spent her time milking her herd of Jersey cattle on
her farm at Bonnie Slope.
Elaine's journey as an educator began in Oregon, where she shaped the
minds and hearts of countless students. Her love for teaching was matched
only by her love for her husband, with whom she later relocated to Newark
Valley.
A skilled doll maker, Elaine's hands were rarely still. Her dolls were not just
toys but works of art, each with its own story, lovingly crafted and cherished by
those who had the privilege to receive them. Her interest in antiquing was
another facet of her love for history.
Elaine was particularly proud of her impressive collection of Singer
Featherweight Sewing Machines that she had gathered over the years. As a
talented seamstress, she used these machines to create beautiful works of
art, each stitch a testament to her patience and attention to detail.
Private services for Elaine will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu

guidance and creative soul have left an indelible mark on the world, and she
will be remembered with fondness and gratitude.
