Dr. Raymond F. Tirrell

Dr. Raymond F. Tirrell, 82, formerly of Cooperstown, passed quietly at The Homestead in Apalachin, NY on Nov. 23, 2011. Dr. Tirrell is survived by his sons: Craig (Christel) Tirrell, Dana (Michelle) Tirrell, Russell (Natalie) Tirrell and his daughter, Susan Knight. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Geoff (Jessie), Richard, Alexandra, Katie, Ashley, Andrea, April, Eliza, Shane, J.R., Jonathon and Samantha, a great grandson, Connor; his brother Russell (Doris) Tirrell, his mother-in-law, Edna (Davis) Amnott, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Born on Jan 1, 1929 in Greenfield, MA, Ray was a son of the late George and Eliza (Graves) Tirrell. He was also predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Helen (Amnott) Tirrell, and his brother Alonzo Tirrell.He graduated high school from Arms Academy in MA, and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He received his Bachelor Degree in Education from Houghton College, and his Masters and PhD from Syracuse University. Dr. Tirrell was a Professor of Social Sciences at SUNY College at Oneonta, NY.He was an avid sports fan especially enjoying the NY Yankees and Syracuse Orangemen. He loved and took great delight in his family. Family services will be private.
