Douglas T. Bronson

Nanticoke, NY

Douglas T. Bronson, 76, of Nanticoke, passed away suddenly on March 11, 2024. Born on March 27, 1947, in Marcy, New York, but grew up in Remsen, NY, he was the son of the late Duane and Jean (Thomas) Bronson. Douglas’s life was a testament to his resilience, love for his family, and his unwavering spirit.

Douglas’s early years set the stage for a life of service and dedication. A proud Marine Corps veteran, he served from 1964 to 1968 during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. His military service was a significant chapter in his life, providing him with a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

Doug leaves behind his beloved wife Linda (Bush) Bronson, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage with, his daughters: Amy Foster (Walt Gasior), Cara Bronson, and grandchildren: Ashley Baker (Dave), Destany Foster, also Daniel (Ashley), and step-son Stephen.

Douglas was one of eleven siblings, a brother to Bruce Bronson, Bill Bronson (Kim Ward), Diane (Steve) Turner, Mary Anne (Warren) Sessions, Arleen (Roger) Heitzenrater, Linda Garner, Marilyn (Craig) Gillespie, Jean Reynolds, and Jane Bronson.

His role in such a large family helped shape him into the man he became, weaving strong bonds that lasted a lifetime. His relationships with his brothers and sisters were a source of strength and comfort, and he cherished the time spent with each of them. He also enjoyed many family reunions with them over the years. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law: Gary Bush (Fred Pfeiffer) and Vincent Moore (Janet), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dear friends Bernie Meyers and Ron Zielewicz.

In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his daughter Jana Bronson and his brother Tommy Bronson (survived by his wife, Joy Lynn).

Professionally, Douglas was known for his intelligence and his ability to fix anything. He was everyone’s handyman, a skill he honed over the years out of necessity and passion. His hands were rarely still, as he was always tinkering, repairing, or improving something around the house or for a friend in need.

Douglas’s interests were as vibrant and varied as his personality. He had a penchant for the thrill of gambling, frequenting Tioga Downs, and indulging in the excitement of lottery tickets.

Douglas also enjoyed watching wildlife and bird watching. These pastimes brought him great joy and were a way for him to unwind and enjoy the lighter side of life.

As a man of faith, Douglas was a longstanding member of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Maine, NY. His belief was a quiet but steady flame that guided his actions and provided solace during life’s inevitable challenges.
